Tree Tips

Before you buy. . .
- Select a spot in the house that has easy access to an electrical outlet and is not in a major traffic area.
- MEASURE for height and width.
- Find or buy your tree stand...make sure it can hold at least one gallon of water.

At the Christmas Tree lot. . .
- Take along a measuring tape, and some cord to secure the tree to your car.
- If the tree has been previously cut...ask the sales person to lift the tree a few inches off the ground and then drop it, stump end down. Don't be surprised to see red needles drop from the inside of the tree and a few green needles from the outside. This is nature's way of recycling.

At home. . .
- Keep your tree in a protected, COOL location out of direct sunlight until you are ready to decorate.
" Keep the tree in a bucket of water if you are storing it longer than a week.
- Make a STRAIGHT cut across the trunk, an inch above the original...this opens the tree stem so it can take up water.
- Make sure water is topped up daily.
- If possible, bring the tree inside the night before you want to decorate...this allows it to adjust to the warmer temperatures gradually.

Decorating and care. . .
- Avoid the use of combustible decorations.
- Lit candles and frayed cords are a NO-NO!
- Unplug lights before going to bed at night.
- Make sure there is water in the stand at ALL TIMES...trees can drink between 2 pints and a gallon a day!
